Three Expressions, One Character: Find It and Fix It

Name ____________________ Date __________

WHAT YOU WILL MAKE

Make a before-and-after repair pair with an explanation. Focus on three expressions, one character.

Shared feature reference for Cartoon Design
Shared feature reference. It may not show this task’s exact pose, accessory, or style. Use the teacher’s matching reference too.

Draw it step by step

Keep identity while changing emotion.

  1. Read the common mistake below. Make a small trial that demonstrates that mistake, without labeling anyone’s appearance as wrong.
  2. Draw three matching head outlines.
  3. Keep hairstyle and feature spacing consistent.
  4. Change brows, eyes, and mouth for three expressions.
  5. Make a corrected version using the suggested repair. Add an arrow to the changed area and explain why it reads more clearly.

Watch out → Try this

Common drawing problem: The design changes with each mood

Repair: Keep two identity clues constant.

Check your work: Can your partner identify the deliberate drawing repair without being told?

Materials: pencil, eraser, paper, and a mirror or teacher-approved reference. Optional black drawing pen; no painting required.
