MODERN ART LESSONS · STUDENT WORKSHEET
Green-Hair Soft Sculpture — Grade 3
Make a sewn or assembled character doll using fabric, yarn hair, clothing, and accessories supported by gesture studies, a material test, and a visible revision. Use the example for ideas, but choose your own subject, colors, arrangement, and details.

Study the example for possibilities, then close or cover it. Your work should make different choices.
What to do
- Make your own version of “Green-Hair Soft Sculpture”. Keep the subject in the title, but invent the design and story details.
- Your core skill today: Keep spacing and tension consistent in a small woven or wrapped design.
- Draw the character or setting from the front. Circle the three largest parts and name the material needed for each.
- Draw a large paper pattern. Have an adult prepare difficult cuts; join felt with school-safe glue or supervised blunt-needle stitching. Add features before closing or stuffing.
- Add one face, costume, object, or setting clue that tells a viewer who lives in this story world.
- Check joins from every side. Repair loose parts, then photograph the model as a still scene. A model is anime-inspired design, not animation until frames are recorded.
- Name one change that made the result clearer. Label or dictate your name and title, share the work, and clean the tools.
My project: I am making a sewn or assembled character doll using fabric, yarn hair, clothing, and accessories supported by gesture studies, a material test, and a visible revision. Draw or write your idea.
My choices: Circle or write the colors and materials you will use.
My plan: Draw the big shapes or main parts and show where they will go.
My first step: What will you make first?
Halfway check: What part needs to be added, moved, fixed, or made stronger?
Finish check: Are the main idea, important details, and connections complete?
Share: One choice I made was… One change I made was…
Skill evidence: Keep spacing and tension consistent in a small woven or wrapped design. Show your test and explain what you chose; speaking or dictation is welcome.
