Purple-Hair Marker Portrait — Grade 3

Make a friendly original portrait using marker layers, hair texture, and dark clothing supported by gesture studies, a material test, and a visible revision. Use the example for ideas, but choose your own subject, colors, arrangement, and details.

Study the example for possibilities, then close or cover it. Your work should make different choices.

What to do

  1. Make your own version of “Purple-Hair Marker Portrait”. Keep the subject in the title, but invent the design and story details.
  2. Your core skill today: Use a small technique test to control edges and contrast.
  3. Invent a character's name, feeling, and favorite activity. Sketch two simple head shapes and choose one.
  4. Place a light face guide. Try two eye-and-mouth combinations on scrap, then select the one that shows the intended feeling.
  5. Add the hair as large connected shapes, then a body or shoulders and one costume clue. For an action pose, sketch the curve of movement before the body.
  6. Outline the important contours and color a small test first. Use the tested colors in the final picture; ask a partner what feeling and activity they notice.
  7. Name one change that made the result clearer. Label or dictate your name and title, share the work, and clean the tools.
01

My project: I am making a friendly original portrait using marker layers, hair texture, and dark clothing supported by gesture studies, a material test, and a visible revision. Draw or write your idea.

02

My choices: Circle or write the colors and materials you will use.

03

My plan: Draw the big shapes or main parts and show where they will go.

04

My first step: What will you make first?

05

Halfway check: What part needs to be added, moved, fixed, or made stronger?

06

Finish check: Are the main idea, important details, and connections complete?

07

Share: One choice I made was… One change I made was…

08

Skill evidence: Use a small technique test to control edges and contrast. Show your test and explain what you chose; speaking or dictation is welcome.
